Makiko is a NYS licensed massage therapist who can help you feel grounded and healthier in your body. Makiko grew up in the countryside on Kyushu Island in Japan and moved to New York City at 22 for dance training. While in NYC, Makiko attended the Swedish Institute of Massage in Manhattan and graduated in 2005. She has over17 years of experience in Swedish/Deep Tissue massage, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Craniosacral therapy and Pre-natal massage, as well as over 15 years of Afro-Latin dance experience.
At the end of 2015, she suddenly fell ill and experienced lung failure. Miraculously, she survived and came home for her two daughters after being hospitalized for 6 months. Because of this experience, she feels extremely grateful for every moment, and every movement, and is more than happy to share her knowledge of mind and body awareness with this community through the art of massage, movement and bodywork.
Throughout the healing process from of this experience Makiko connected even more deeply with the power of breathing. Meditating on her strong connection to dolphins helped Makiko’s healing of her lungs. Dolphins are mammals that dive and conserve breath while under the water.
During the pandemic Makiko noticed how much more stress people were having and wanted to offer a more holistic approach to dealing with these stresses, so she trained as a Breathing Coach and Flexibility Coach with YogaBody. She has integrated these two certifications into her business and now offers breathing and flexibility coaching to clients facilitating self-care techniques through body work.
